Home Assistant is a cool system, no doubt about it. But it eats SD cards for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are people who claim that their Raspberry Pi has run for a long time and the SD card has never failed. This is maybe true. But in that case they just haven't run it long enough. So don't trust them!
So... Keep a back up of your Hass.io setup.
A good way to make sure you always have a working backup is through the "Hass.io Google Drive Backup" add-on. This add-on has saved my ass when the SD card stopped working. Just get it!
